Sweeter together: Copersucar joins WBCSD

01/07/2015

Geneva – Today, Copersucar joins nearly 200 forward-thinking companies as a new member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Copersucar, a globally significant player in the world’s sugar and ethanol markets, will use this partnership to continue making strides for sustainability.

Paulo Roberto de Souza, Copersucar’s CEO, stated: “At Copersucar, we are dedicated to growing our business openly and sustainably. We believe our partnership with WBCSD will help us take the next step in creating value for society, the environment, and our shareholders. As a global bioethanol supplier, Copersucar believes that renewable biofuel represents great potential for greenhouse gases mitigation, and a huge contribution to the environment. We are happy about new opportunities for collaboration on sustainability challenges, and we are excited to share our experiences with other WBCSD members as well.”

Peter Bakker, WBCSD’s President and CEO welcomes this partnership. “WBCSD is proud to welcome Copersucar. Their commitment to continuously improve across their supply chains is admirable, and we look forward to supporting them going even further with their efforts. We hope that Copersucar will share ideas as we work together to innovate and implement new business solutions for addressing global challenges.”

Copersucar’s market reach and sustainability initiatives make the company a worthy candidate for going beyond business as usual. Copersucar meets 12% of global demand for ethanol and free market sugar, with significant activities in food and clean energy supply across the world. Taken together, Copersucar’s ethical business practices and WBCSD’s network of forward thinking businesses should make for a productive and fruitful partnership.
